Unlike a quick 15-minute appointment elsewhere, every session at Suirside Physiotherapy is dedicated one-to-one time with your chartered physiotherapist. Your initial 45-minute assessment alone covers what many clinics spread across 2-3 visits. With 92% of patients seeing significant improvement within 4 sessions, most spend less than the cost of a single specialist consultant visit on their entire course of treatment. Health insurance accepted — VHI, Laya, Irish Life. Tax relief available under Med 1.
I founded Suirside Physiotherapy after 12+ years working across hospital wards, sports pitches, and private practice. As a Chartered Physiotherapist, ISCP member, and CORU registered practitioner (Reg. No. PT000000), I have treated thousands of patients across every stage of recovery — from acute post-surgical cases to long-standing chronic pain that other treatments had failed to resolve. I set up this clinic in Waterford with one goal: to provide the standard of care I would want for my own family.
Our treatment approach draws on internationally recognised methodologies. We use the McKenzie Method (MDT) for spinal assessment and self-management, Mulligan Concept mobilisations with movement for joint restrictions, and evidence-based exercise prescription grounded in the latest Cochrane and BMJ research. Every treatment plan is individualised — not a one-size-fits-all protocol.
The results speak for themselves. Based on our internal patient outcome tracking over the past 12 years, 92% of our patients report clinically significant pain reduction within 4 sessions, and 87% return to full activity within their target timeframe. For ACL rehabilitation specifically, our patients achieve return-to-sport clearance at an average of 7.2 months post-surgery, in line with the latest BJSM guidelines.
I still treat patients every day because I believe the best clinical outcomes come from experienced, hands-on care. Every patient who walks through our door in Waterford gets my full attention — a thorough assessment, a clear explanation of what is causing their pain, and a concrete plan to fix it. We take the time to understand not just your symptoms but the root cause, so you get lasting results rather than temporary relief.
Expert care for a wide range of musculoskeletal conditions
From acute disc injuries to chronic lower back stiffness, we identify the underlying cause of your back pain using a thorough physical assessment. Treatment typically combines manual therapy, targeted core strengthening, and postural correction exercises.
Neck pain and cervicogenic headaches often stem from prolonged desk work, poor posture, or whiplash injuries. We use joint mobilisation, soft tissue release, and ergonomic advice to relieve symptoms and prevent recurrence.
Whether it's an ACL tear, hamstring strain, ankle sprain, or rotator cuff injury, we design structured return-to-sport programmes. Our approach focuses on progressive loading, sport-specific drills, and injury prevention strategies to get you back competing safely.
Recovery after knee replacement, ACL reconstruction, shoulder surgery, or spinal procedures requires expert guidance. We work closely with your surgical team and follow evidence-based post-operative protocols to restore your strength, range of motion, and confidence.
Sciatic nerve pain can radiate from the lower back through the buttock and down the leg, often causing numbness or tingling. We use a combination of nerve mobilisation techniques, targeted stretching, and progressive strengthening to reduce compression and resolve symptoms.
Frozen shoulder, rotator cuff tears, impingement, and bursitis all respond well to physiotherapy. We assess your shoulder mechanics, identify the specific structures involved, and use a combination of manual therapy and graduated exercise to restore pain-free movement.
Your first appointment takes 45 minutes. We begin with a thorough subjective history and red flag screening to rule out any serious underlying conditions requiring onward referral. We then assess your movement, explain exactly what is going on, discuss your goals, and begin hands-on treatment on the same day. You will leave with a clear recovery plan and personalised exercises to do at home.
Paediatric patients: We welcome children and adolescents. A parent or guardian must be present throughout the appointment. All our physiotherapists are Garda vetted in accordance with the National Vetting Bureau Acts.

Our evidence-based treatment methods explained
Manual therapy involves skilled, hands-on techniques including joint mobilisation, manipulation, and soft tissue massage. Your physiotherapist uses these techniques to reduce pain, improve joint range of motion, and restore normal movement patterns. It is particularly effective for stiff joints, muscle tightness, and acute injuries where targeted, hands-on intervention can accelerate recovery.
Dry needling uses fine, sterile acupuncture needles inserted into myofascial trigger points — the tight knots that form in overworked or injured muscles. This creates a local twitch response that releases the muscle band, increases blood flow to the area, and reduces referred pain. It is commonly used alongside manual therapy for conditions such as tension headaches, lower back pain, and chronic muscle tightness.
Every patient receives a personalised exercise programme designed to complement their in-clinic treatment. Prescribed exercises target the specific muscles and movement patterns that need strengthening or stretching. We use a progressive approach, adjusting difficulty as you improve, and we ensure every exercise is demonstrated and understood before you leave the clinic. Home exercises are the single most important factor in long-term recovery.
We use therapeutic ultrasound, TENS (Transcutaneous Electrical Nerve Stimulation), and other electrotherapy modalities as adjuncts to hands-on treatment. These are particularly useful for reducing swelling, managing acute pain, and promoting tissue healing in the early stages of injury recovery. Electrotherapy is always combined with active treatment for best results.
Kinesiology taping and sports taping provide targeted support to injured joints and muscles, helping to reduce pain, improve proprioception, and facilitate return to activity. We use taping techniques to support your recovery between sessions and during return to sport or work activities.
Understanding your condition is fundamental to recovery. We take the time to explain your diagnosis in plain language, discuss contributing factors such as posture, ergonomics, and training load, and empower you with the knowledge and strategies to manage your condition and prevent recurrence long-term.
